Other raptors in include Red Shouldered Hawk, Cooper’s Hawk, and Sharp-shinned Hawk. During the course of a year many raptors have used this area as their nesting or hunting ground. The habitat is quite good thus attracting many other species of birds. We have large tracts of 40 year old pines resulting in a prime area to attract the kites. ![]() My neighborhood is close to a sizeable bayou. Texas Mississippi Kites are small, slender raptors which feed mostly on insects. On the Wing From Cornell Lab of Ornithology I saw migrants in May, but now am seeing many Texas Mississippi Kites almost every day. Many spring migrants come through Texas each year, however, this year has brought a fair amount of breeding birds to the Upper Coast. They are breeders along the Upper Gulf Coast and the Texas Panhandle. Texas Mississippi Kites are migrants over the eastern half of the state. ![]()

To help you narrow down your choices, here are the best portable blenders currently on the market. While they generally aren’t as powerful as full-size versions, the latest models still pack a powerful pureeing punch. And that’s where portable blenders come up huge.Īs the name suggests, these scaled-down versions of their OG counterparts take up far less space and ring in at a fraction of the cost. They can also get expensive, with some models costing upwards of hundreds of dollars even if you’re using one daily, that’s a serious investment. The only drawback? They’re big and bulky, oftentimes occupying prime real estate on your kitchen counter or in your cabinets. The final result: an additional 110MHz boost over the GTX 1080 FTW’s already boosted core clock speeds, and an additional 175MHz added to its memory clock speeds. Ignoring the custom per-voltage overclocking capable with GPU Boost 3.0, we manually inched clock speeds upward in EVGA’s PrecisionXOC software until things started to break. Overclocking’s always a roll of the dice thanks to the Silicon Lottery, but the EVGA GTX 1080 FTW was clearly built with overclocking in mind with those two 8-pin power connections, so we decided to include some overclocking results in a few of our tests. All proprietary AMD/Nvidia graphics technology is disabled during testing, and we use the stated in-game default presets unless noted otherwise. AMD never sent us a $1500 Radeon Pro Duo to test, unfortunately, so you won’t find dual-Fiji GPU results listed. The card’s memory and MOSFET are covered by a cooling plate, too, and the EVGA GTX 1080 FTW supports 10 power phases (compared to the Founders Edition’s five). Those sit over a full-sized set of heat sink fans, with the GPU itself covered by a large copper plate with six heat pipes of various sizes snaking out of it. The new generation of EVGA’s vaunted custom-cooling solution features a pair of massive 100mm fans that shut off in low power scenarios and contain double ball-bearings that help them last up to four times longer than competing cards, EVGA claims. That gives EVGA’s card a decent leg up over Nvidia’s Founders Edition.Īnd that advantage is multiplied by the EVGA GTX 1080 FTW’s efficient ACX 3.0 cooling. While the stock GTX 1080 uses a 1,607MHz base and 1,733MHz boost clock, the EVGA FTW starts at 1,721MHz and boosts up to 1,860MHz. Speaking of which, the EVGA GTX 1080 FTW rocks a fairly healthy overclock out of the box. (Click to enlarge any image in this article.) The EVGA GTX 1080 FTW’s essential spec sheet. (That’s why we don’t often include overclocking results in graphics card reviews, though we will for this one.) ![]() That extra juice amps up the potential for lofty overclocks, though your GPU’s maximum speed always depends on how lucky you get in the silicon lottery. You’ll notice the first one as soon as you install the card: While the Founders Edition draws 180 watts of power over a single 8-pin connection, the EVGA GTX 1080 FTW is rated at a 215W TDP via a pair of 8-pin connections. That said, there are some major, major differences between the EVGA GTX 1080 FTW and its Founders Edition counterpart. You can catch up on all of the base-level technical details on the first page of PCWorld’s GeForce GTX 1080 review. It’s still built around Nvidia’s new 16nm Pascal GPU, with 8GB of cutting-edge GDDR5X memory running at a speedy 10Gbps. As with all custom graphics cards, the core specs of the GTX 1080 FTW largely mirror what you’ll find with the reference version. With EVGA yet to release a Classified, Kingpin, or Hydro Copper versions of the GTX 1080, the EVGA GTX 1080 FTW currently represents the pinnacle of the company’s lineup. ![]() ![]() ![]() I am dying to be able to use it from the mobile, cause mobile is becomming a nice replacement of the desktop, it is a real computer in your pocket. That year both companies went public and Torvalds's share value briefly shot up to about US$20 million. In 1999, Red Hat and VA Linux, both leading developers of Linux-based software, presented Torvalds with stock options in gratitude for his creation. In 1999, he was named by the MIT Technology Review TR100 as one of the world's top 100 innovators under age 35. He then moved to the Open Source Development Labs, which has since merged with the Free Standards Group to become the Linux Foundation, under whose auspices he continues to work. ![]() Īfter a visit to Transmeta in late 1996, Torvalds accepted a position at the company in California, where he worked from February 1997 to June 2003. Torvalds would ultimately switch his original license (which forbade commercial use) to Stallman's GNU General Public License version 2 (GPLv2) for his Linux kernel after complaints of distributors being unable to recoup their costs due to a non-commercial clause. Torvalds first encountered the GNU Project in fall of 1991 when another Swedish-speaking computer science student, Lars Wirzenius, took him to the University of Technology to listen to free software guru Richard Stallman's speech. Version 1.0 was released on 14 March 1994. The first Linux prototypes were publicly released in late 1991. On 5 January 1991 he purchased an Intel 80386-based clone of IBM PC before receiving his MINIX copy, which in turn enabled him to begin work on Linux. "Because it was so hard to get software for it in Finland", he wrote his own assembler and editor "(in addition to Pac-Man graphics libraries)" for the QL, and a few games. He then purchased a Sinclair QL, which he modified extensively, especially its operating system. He started programming for it in BASIC, then later by directly accessing the 6502 CPU in machine code (he did not utilize assembly language). His interest in computers began with a VIC-20 at the age of 11 in 1981. His MSc thesis was titled Linux: A Portable Operating System. In 1990, Torvalds resumed his university studies, and was exposed to Unix for the first time in the form of a DEC MicroVAX running ULTRIX. He bought computer science professor Andrew Tanenbaum's book Operating Systems: Design and Implementation, in which Tanenbaum describes MINIX, an educational stripped-down version of Unix. He gained the rank of second lieutenant, with the role of an artillery observer. His academic career was interrupted after his first year of study when he joined the Finnish Navy Nyland Brigade in the summer of 1989, selecting the 11-month officer training program to fulfill the mandatory military service of Finland. Torvalds attended the University of Helsinki from 1988 to 1996, graduating with a master's degree in computer science from the NODES research group. He was named after Linus Pauling, the Nobel Prize–winning American chemist, although in the book Rebel Code: Linux and the Open Source Revolution, he is quoted as saying, "I think I was named equally for Linus the Peanuts cartoon character", noting that this made him "half Nobel Prize–winning chemist and half blanket-carrying cartoon character". His family belongs to the Swedish-speaking minority in Finland. His parents were campus radicals at the University of Helsinki in the 1960s. Torvalds was born in Helsinki, Finland, the son of journalists Anna and Nils Torvalds, the grandson of statistician Leo Törnqvist and of poet Ole Torvalds, and the great-grandson of journalist and soldier Toivo Karanko. He was honored, along with Shinya Yamanaka, with the 2012 Millennium Technology Prize by the Technology Academy Finland "in recognition of his creation of a new open source operating system for computers leading to the widely used Linux kernel."
